THE ROCKI STORY

The idea to develop ROCKI started in February 2013: We were frustrated with those awful sounding little Bluetooth speakers - cheap, low quality, and what a hassle to pair them each and every time. The problem seems to be that Bluetooth was never designed for enjoying music. Why can't we simply have wireless music everywhere, in every room at home?

We started with selecting a technology that’s far more suitable for streaming music, a technology that has become the defacto standard for wireless connections. Wifi is based on radio waves that have been used to broadcast music for almost a century. Today you will be hard pressed to find modern homes without a wifi connection. Looking around, we found a few speakers that are able to stream wifi music but they come with a hefty price tag, which means that we (and most people) would not think of having one in every room. That brings another question to mind: Why should there be only a limited choice of wifi speakers?

Music and sound systems should be about personal preferences: Your choice of sound, your choice of style, your choice between affordability or high end exclusivity. That was the "Eureka" moment that sparked the ROCKI concept; instead of building yet another wifi speaker, let's turn all speakers (your speakers) into wifi speakers! We don’t need more speakers, we need a system that connects everything together! Make it simple to use and affordable. WHAT IS ROCKI?

Simply put, ROCKI is a Wifi Music Sound System 1. First, there's the ROCK "PLAY" device: The ROCKI "PLAY" is a tiny device that once you plug it into your sound system (Hifi, Mini-compos, Powered speakers etc.), it turns it into a Wifi Sound System. You can also think of the ROCKI "PLAY" device as a Wifi receiver for your sound system that receives music via wifi and then plays it on your sound system. 2. Then, there's the ROCKI App (Free of charge) that you install on your phone. ROCKI App lets you send music to ROCKI "PLAY" over Wifi, simply and effortlessly.

That's it - easy does it!

Multi-Speakers - You can have many ROCKI PLAY + Speakers in your home, e.g. one in your living room, another in your kitchen and the next in your bedroom. ROCKI PLAY is very affordable and doesn’t discriminate between speakers. So you could have a high end sound system in your living room, a mid range all-in-one speaker set in your bedroom, waterproof speakers in your bathroom and a cheap old set you dug out of your garage :-) For each of these speakers just plug in a ROCKI PLAY and they will all become part of your ROCKI Wifi Music System!! Simply control and enjoy music right from your phone.

Multi-room - Because it’s wifi (instead of Bluetooth), the ROCKI Wifi System is not limited by walls and can bridge much larger distances than Bluetooth. You can use wifi extenders to reach even further for large buildings. With the extensive use of wifi on phones/tablets, we're pretty sure you've got your home wifi already figured out. ROCKI will simply work using your existing wifi.

Multi-user - Family and friends can simply play and control music from their own phones too. Of course you can set permissions to allow it or not, it's your ROCKI after all :-) Imagine inspiring your friends and be inspired by their music and having a great night of music listening.

This is what sets ROCKI apart from the rest . It's the vision that will make the ROCKI system complete, easy to use and truly for everyone.

From Every Phone - There will be 3 flavors of the ROCKI App: Android, iOS and HTML5 (for all other phones, PCs / Macs)

To All Speakers - ROCKI PLAY is designed with 3.5mm or RCA audio connectors because these are the most common audio input connections that allows ROCKI to work will all speakers.

For Everyone - To ensure everybody has the resources to turn their home into a multi-room Wifi Music System, we needed to make it affordable. This final product is the fifth hardware design - some were eliminated because of price, some were eliminated because of sound and wireless transmission quality and others were eliminated because we couldn't get the rights to do firmware development on the processors. Nine months and five hardware designs later, we proved perseverance pays off: ROCKI is ready. It's time to ROCKI. Free your music!
